5 Key Things To Look For In Apartment Locations
Apartment-hunting is like house-hunting—location, location, location (among other things).
As a student, it’s important to think about why your apartment’s location is crucial in your decision-making process.
Asking about location is key, whether you research by yourself or you ask your leasing agent about it to help you find the best place to live.
Take these five location factors into account when thinking about a place to rent.
1. Train Station
If you've moved from a location where transportation is easy to come by, moving to a more rural community for school can be challenging. That's because a train station may not be nearby (or even in your town).
Living near a train station is great because it allows you easy access to commute home for a break or even just a day.
For example, unlike many Amtrak stops between St. Louis and Chicago, the Normal station offers a host of amenities, including:
- An ATM
- Vending machines
- Restrooms
- An elevator
- Same-day and overnight covered parking
Living close to a train station is very convenient for those who use it frequently.
2. Greek Life
If you're a part of Greek life on campus, chances are you may already live with some of your fraternity brothers or sorority sisters.
That's why living near a Greek house might be a perfect fit for you.
Take advantage of the close proximity to drop in to the house for social gatherings, or invite your brothers and sisters over to your place for a fun get-together.
3. Busy Intersections
Apartments situated near a busy street or intersection are great for you to live near.
For one, it's great for your social life. You can head out for a night on the town with your friends while still being close enough to walk—or get an inexpensive ride—home afterward.
Plus, these areas are bustling with options for shopping, restaurants, and other fun activities. It's hard to say, "I'm bored," when you've got so much so close.
Just be sure to follow some basic safety tips!
4. Recreation
Thankfully, you don't have to pick between being a student and staying fit.
Lose your freshman 15 by choosing an apartment that's near a park, swimming pool, or another type of recreational facility.
Alternatively, find out what gyms are near your apartment.
Better yet, pick an apartment with a fitness center inside of it!
Having fun while staying in shape is an essential part of the college experience.
5. School Commute
Last, but certainly not least, let's not forget why you're searching for an apartment in the first place: school.
Think about how near your apartment is to where most of your classes will be taking place. For example, you may not want to live in an apartment that is on the far end of campus for you.
If you're an athlete, you may want to be near your training center for practices.
When you're hunting for apartments, keep location in mind. It just may help you put one apartment above the rest for you.
